3Dconnexion Announces Support for Adobe Acrobat 3D Software

3D Navigation Devices Enable Control of 2D and 3D Imagery within PDF Documents

SAN JOSE, Calif. - 3Dconnexion, a Logitech company, today announced that its line of 3D navigation devices now supports Adobe® Acrobat® 3D software. With 3DxSoftware Version 3.1, people viewing 3D PDF content in Acrobat 3D software Version 7 and the forthcoming Acrobat 3D Version 8 or Adobe Reader® 8 software (or higher) can use the 3Dconnexion SpacePilot(TM), SpaceExplorer(TM), SpaceTraveler(TM) or SpaceNavigator(TM) products to simultaneously pan, zoom and rotate 3D models.

"This is an important breakthrough because PDF is the most ubiquitous electronic publishing format for exchanging and reviewing 3D designs," said Rory Dooley, president of 3Dconnexion. "Our devices enhance the viewing experience and ultimately the comprehension of 3D designs. The combination of the software and hardware is powerful."

3DxSoftware Version 3.1 allows people to use their 3Dconnexion devices to control both 2D documents and 3D models. Within a PDF document, people can use the SpaceNavigator device in the non-mouse hand to pan and zoom. To manipulate an embedded 3D object, after clicking on the object with the mouse, people can pan, zoom and rotate the 3D model using the SpaceNavigator while simultaneously using the mouse to make selections and choose commands within the document and interface.

"Acrobat 3D enriches collaboration by enabling extended teams to use interactive, universal PDF documents to more quickly, securely and cost-effectively drive to completion critical communication processes that require 3D visualization," said Bahman Dara, senior product marketing manager, Knowledge Worker Business Unit, Adobe Systems Incorporated. "3Dconnexion's support of Acrobat 3D and Adobe Reader provides customers strong value. 3Dconnexion devices enable design engineers, as well as professionals at every stage of the supply chain, to more intuitively and thoroughly visualize 3D data in PDF as part of communication and collaboration processes."
