Fielding Manufacturing Adds 3D Model Printing Service

-- Quick turnaround rapid prototyping will help customers optimize part design, test form and fit, and facilitate tooling production

Cranston, RI -- Miniature parts specialist Fielding Manufacturing has added a new 3D model printing service to its capabilities. Utilizing an Alaris(TM)30 3D printer from Objet Geometries, Fielding's model printing and prototyping service will help customers optimize part designs, check form and fit, and facilitate tooling before needing to commit to costly production runs. Two to three-day turnaround for 3D models will also help customers speed products to market.

"No matter how thorough the part design process, there are always questions before going into production," said Steve Fielding, President of Fielding Manufacturing. "Will there be enough clearance here? Do these faces mate properly? Will this surface release from the mold? Where and what will the ejection features look like? The prototyping process can help answer many of these questions. Our 3D modeling service will provide the answers and help customers refine their designs before they have to invest in expensive production tooling."

Based on Objet's proven PolyJet(TM) Photopolymer Jetting Technology, Fielding's 3D model printing creates true-to-life parts of any kind with superb accuracy up to 3 cubic inches (75.7 mm x 75.7 mm x 75.7 mm). Features include smooth surfaces, complex geometries, small moving elements, fine details, stand-out text, and thin walls down to 0.6 mm. The system produces exceptional detail by combining thin 28 ìm (.0011 in.) layers with a very small drop size and high resolution of 600 x 600 dpi.

Each photopolymer layer is cured with UV light immediately after it is jetted, to produce fully cured models that can be handled and used without post-curing. The gel-like support material, which is specially designed for complex geometries, is easily removed with a water-jet or by hand. This allows validation that all elements fit properly--including complex geometries and small moving elements--and interact correctly. Electronic components can even be inserted for emulation of final products.

According to Fielding, customers need only provide a 3D CAD file to produce highly accurate model shapes with exceptionally smooth surfaces that can be painted to produce a close representation of the look and feel of the final product. These can be ideal for internal and external marketing presentations. The Fielding 3D modeling system uses Objet VeroWhite FullCure® 830, a modeling material durable enough to provide direct molds for some parts.
