3D Laser Scanner Retrofits Available for I++ Compatible CMMs

(MINNEAPOLIS, MN, USA; November 6, 2008) - Laser Design Inc. (LDI), the leading supplier of 3D laser scanners for more than 20 years, announced that I++ compatible coordinate measuring machine (CMM) motion controllers are now supported on its laser scanning systems. C. Martin Schuster, President of Laser Design, commented, "We have the capability to easily install our high-speed laser scanners and scanning software on new or existing CMM's supporting the I++ protocol."

Full motion controller system retrofits are now available with the I++ protocol for the following systems:

o Wenzel WPC-2030 controller
o Brown & Sharpe FBPC and Sharpe controllers
o Sheffield MP and SMP controllers
o DEA B3C/LC and TutorP controllers
o IMS M9 controller
o Numerex controller

"The speed and accuracy of Laser Design's SLP laser probes is easily integrated with many types of conventional CMM inspection systems," continued Schuster. "This means a tremendous time savings for the thousands of CMM customers worldwide currently using touch probes for inspection and reverse engineering. With data capture rates of up to 150,000 points per second, our laser scanners are ideal for measuring parts with complex shapes or free-form surfaces. Adding our laser scanners to existing CMMs is great way for customers to extend the value of their CMM investment." Laser Design, Inc. has been the leading supplier of ultra-precise, 3D laser scanning systems and services for over 20 years. Used for capturing the 3D shape of objects with complex geometries and free-form surfaces, Laser Design's high accuracy, CMM-based and portable laser scanning systems are ideal for 3D scanning applications involving inspection and reverse engineering of complex shaped plastic and metal parts. The company's patented laser line-probe technology dramatically reduces scanning time by collecting data substantially faster and more accurately than conventional metrology technologies. Laser Design integrates Geomagic software with its laser scanners to provide complete solutions for reverse engineering and inspection applications.

Headquartered in Minneapolis, the company has Regional Technical Services and Support Centers in major U.S. markets, and distributors throughout Europe and Asia. Laser Design also operates GKS Inspection Services (www.GKS.com), an in-house service bureau division offering complete 3D scanning, reverse engineering, and dimensional inspection services.
