New High Speed 3D Scanning System for Devices In Strips

Eden Prairie, MN-September 16, 2002 PPT VISION has announced the new PPT861-SH(TM), a high-speed, automated 3D & 2D inspection system providing precise measurement of a broad range of critical device parameters. Utilizing the patented SMI(TM) (Scanning Moire Interferometry(TM)) 3D technology, the PPT861-SH(TM) allows 100% production inspection of devices in strip format by delivering comprehensive measurement results at speeds many times faster than other available systems.

Designed for fast and easy changeovers, this inline or batch processing inspection system is ideal for small lot production or high volume applications. The system provides the flexibility to scan a wide range of devices in strips including BGA, CSP, and LGA. All scanning and motion parameters are programmable to allow the inspection of a broad range of component types with varying package size, lead type and lead count. Typical measurements include coplanarity, ball height, surface flatness and true position.

SMI(TM) 3D scanning technology employs the traditional, highly accurate, phase-shift moire interferometry in high-speed scanning mode. SMI collects 3D data for all balls, lands and substrates on the entire strip in a single scan. This enables coplanarity inspection speeds, accuracy, and robust performance unmatched by any other 3D measurement system.
