'Modified Standard Products' Fill Navy Test Needs

The US Naval Air Warfare Center, Lakehurst, NJ, tests and certifies large steam cylinders and valves used to power airplane launch "catapults" on aircraft carriers. Test requirements include, among other things, monitoring several temperature points.
The system designers needed both local indication and signal retransmission of several RTD (resistance temperature sensor) temperature measurements. JH Technology, Inc, Sarasota, FL offered its Model FDT5400 field-mount display/transmitter but it was a single-measurement instrument. The Navy needed to monitor several temperatures per system.

The solution - modified standard products. The company provided the Navy with the interior display panel from the FDT5400 along with a modified Model JH4001 plug-in signal conditioner module. The module, which provides the required 0 to 10 volt retransmission signal, was modified to add a cable providing signal and power to the display. The Navy elected to mount several sets of instruments in a system enclosure of its own design.
