Small businesses are often referred to as the backbone of the American economy. According to the U.S. Small Business Administration Office of Advocacy, the numbers support this colloquialism, with small businesses accounting for 30.2 million of all American companies — in other words, 99.9%. And these millions of companies employ a total of 58.9 million workers, which accounts for 47.5% of the U.S. workforce.
When standing next to giants, small businesses can often wield significant influence. Big companies, such as United Technologies Corp. (UTC), recognize small businesses as fundamental components of their supply chains, and strive to build mutually beneficial partnerships with these organizations. In collaborating with small businesses, UTC benefits from these companies’ “cutting-edge innovation, competitive advantage, cost savings, and more.”
In order to foster new relationships with small businesses, UTC’s aerospace business units — in conjunction with the U.S. Small Business Administration as well as the U.S. Department of Commerce — will be hosting a free webinar on Thursday, September 27, 2018, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm EST. The webinar will provide guidance for those interested in becoming a UTC small business supplier.
Connecting with small business suppliers across the country, UTC will provide tips on the best practices needed to forge a rewarding relationship with the conglomerate. The webinar hosts will delve into the importance of having a solid understanding of UTC’s products, services, and portfolio, as well as some of the common challenges the company contends with. The webinar will also explore the great opportunities for success offered to small business suppliers partnering with UTC.
In particular, UTC is looking to connect with companies not currently working with UTC, those that have or are presently pursuing AS9100 certification, and those in good standing on any federal government agency contract. The webinar is open to a wide variety of manufacturers, distributors, and job shops.
Companies specializing in precision machining, fabrication, castings, forgings, electronics, optics, fasteners, assemblies, and more are encouraged to attend the webinar.
