Toyo Tire Announces $138M Plant Expansion

Toyo Tire North America Manufacturing recently announced plans for a new $138 million manufacturing facility to be built in Cartersville, Georgia. The new production facility will create more than 150 new jobs, bringing the tire makers' total workforce in Georgia to about 2,100.

The facility will take shape in two phases, culminating in a 254,000-square-foot plant that will be able to produce an estimated 2.4 million passenger vehicle tires annually. The company credited the State of Georgia and Bartow County for their help in championing the project. Toyo Tires began manufacturing in the area in 2006. The location of the facility was chosen due to its proximity to a growing collection of retailers and distributors.

Automotive manufacturing plays a vital role in Georgia’s economy, with more than 300 plants throughout the state contributing more than $3 billion on an annual basis. Also, even though there are more than 300,000 automotive workers in the state, many OEMs appreciate that less than 3% of these workers are unionized.
