Tesla Concept Vehicle Could Break a World Record

Tesla Concept Vehicle Could Break a World Record

In case you were wondering, yes, there is such a thing as the Guinness-certified land speed record for electric motorhomes. And Travis Rabenberg hopes to break it with a concept vehicle that seemingly combines a Tesla Model S with a Streamline trailer. The vehicle, which currently exists only as a prototype, will headline an upcoming event organized by the state of Michigan to promote electric and hybrid cars.

Rabenberg’s vehicle features a pop-up camper-sleeper box in lieu of the back seat, with roof-mounted solar panels to help power functions like entertainment systems and air conditioning. A report on Digital Trends also cites upgrades to the suspension, the addition of larger, off-road tires, and the inclusion of alloy wheels.

But in addition to the fun side of the project, Rabenberg is also counting on all this engineering to deliver two world records.

The first is getting the vehicle, which will qualify as a motor home, to reach 150 mph in establishing a new land speed record for this type of vehicle. And, despite the weight and increased drag created by the sleeping compartment, the vehicle will also strive for traveling up to 200 miles on a single charge.

While the vehicle will be on display for the first time later this month, the record-breaking attempts will be part of a 4,500 mile trip between England and Dubai. It will be part of a fleet of electric cars finishing at the World Expo 2020.
