Tennessee Fishing Boat Manufacturer Plans to Create 280 Jobs

A newly established fishing boat manufacturer plans to renovate two buildings outside Nashville, Tenneesse, to house its manufacturing operations.

Caymas Boats is planning to invest more than $30 million in capital for the new facilities in Ashland City, Tennessee, state economic development officials announced on Monday.

Production of fiberglass saltwater and freshwater boats will begin early next year. Caymas’ initial models will be saltwater bay boats up to 27 feet in length, and bass boats up to 21 feet in length, with additional models to be added in the coming years.

The company expects to hire 280 employees over the next five years.

Earl Bentz, the company’s founder and a longtime executive in Tennessee’s marine sector, said in a statement that Caymas is “thrilled to bring fiberglass boatbuilding back home to Ashland City.” He added that many craftspeople previously employed by his Stratos, Javelin, and Triton boat companies would be joining him at Caymas.

The announcement came two weeks after another Ashland City, Tennessee, marine manufacturer — barge maker Arcosa — announced plans to add 300 jobs over the next five years.
