Pulley and Idler Manufacturer to Expand to Kentucky

An Iowa manufacturer of material handling components plans to build a nearly $11 million facility in northeastern Kentucky.

Precision Pulley and Idler (PPI) expects to create 134 jobs at the Maysville, Kentucky, manufacturing and distribution center over the next 10 years, Gov. Matt Bevin’s office announced on December 28, 2018. In addition to pulleys and idlers, the company produces take-up frames and bearings for use in a wide range of industries, including logistics, energy, mining, and forestry.

Officials said that the existing 105,000-square-foot complex would allow PPI to continue operating in the event of interruptions due to natural disasters or other factors. The facility would be located near many of its customers and would provide the capacity needed to meet growing demand for package and baggage handling systems.

“The addition of this facility in Maysville allows for additional capacity to meet growing demands both now and into the future,” PPI President and CEO Roger Brown said in the announcement. “We are very excited to become a part of the Maysville community and expect to be an active member of the community for many years.”

Last month, Kentucky economic development officials granted preliminary approval for up to $2.1 million in tax incentives to support the project. The company is also eligible for no-cost and reduced-cost recruitment, job placement, and job training services from the state.
