Sofidel recently broke ground on a $360 million facility that could bring as many as 300 jobs to the city of Inola, in Rogers County, Oklahoma. The plant will help the growing company serve customers in the south-central region of the United States. It’s the company’s second manufacturing facility in the U.S.
Construction of the 1.8 million-square-foot plant should be completed by 2020, at which point it will be able to produce 120,000 tons of tissue paper each year. The Public Service Company of Oklahoma helped prepare the site for industrial development, as the location of Sofidel’s new plant is the same site as the highly-protested Black Fox nuclear power plant which was never built.
The project also saw support from Tulsa’s Future, a regional economic development plan supported by public and private investors. The organization is responsible for bringing nearly $700 million in capital investment to northeast Oklahoma. Sofidel Group was founded in 1966 and is among the largest producers of tissue paper for toilet paper, napkins, paper towels, handkerchiefs, and tissues in the world.
