Illinois Manufacturing Facility to Add 90 Jobs in $25M Expansion

Federal Signal Corp. this week announced plans for a $25 million expansion of a manufacturing facility in north-central Illinois.

The project will add about 100,000 square feet to the Vactor Manufacturing building in Streater, as well as create up to 90 jobs and bolster its overall capacity.

The Vactor subsidiary produces sewer cleaners, vacuum trucks and hydro-excavators.

Federal Signal officials attributed the expansion to an enhanced sewer cleaner product lineup and growth in vacuum excavation technology, which the company said is less invasive than other digging techniques.

Company President and CEO Jennifer Sherman called the project “a testament to the talented and dedicated workforce that we are fortunate to have in the Streator area.”

Construction is expected to begin in the first half of the year in hopes of wrapping up the first phase by the end of 2020.

The company also received support from state and local officials for the project, the announcement noted.
