Magneti Marelli Holding USA, LLC, an Italian company that designs and manufactures automobile components, recently announced that it will be investing $12.6 million on an expansion of its U.S. headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan, to help support Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ (FCA) increased SUV production. Demand for the company’s Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Grand Wagoneer remains strong.
The expansion will include the creation of 106 new positions, new research and development labs, and the purchase of updated equipment. The company said it was also exploring opportunities to move into a larger facility that could bring all employees under one roof.
A $1.6 million Michigan Business Development Program grant was approved by the Michigan Economic Development Corp. to help fund the project. Last October, FCA sold Magneti Marelli to Calsonic Kansie Corporation for $7.1 billion — creating one the world’s largest suppliers of automotive components. Magneti Marelli is focused on lighting, powertrain, suspension, and exhaust and electronic systems, as well as plastic components and modules.
Magneti Marelli has 86 manufacturing plants, 12 research and development centers, and 26 application facilities across 19 countries. It supplies all of the leading carmakers in North American, South America, Europe, and Asia.
