Cement Products Mfr. Investing $120M to Expand in Georgia

Nichiha Corporation has announced plans to invest $120 million for an expansion of its manufacturing facility in Macon-Bibb County, Georgia. The global manufacturer of fiber cement siding products will also create 74 new jobs in the process. The Japanese company has operated in Georgia for 20 years.

The expansion will help support growing demand for the company’s products in the southeastern United States. Nichiha specializes in fiber cement products designed for interior and exterior use, in both commercial and residential applications. The company has 13 facilities worldwide and has been in the U.S. since 1998, but the Macon plant represents its first American manufacturing facility. It came on-line in 2008.

Officials from the Georgia Department of Economic Development credited the state’s strategic manufacturing resources and deep talent pool as critical reasons why Macon was selected for expansion. In addition to nearly doubling the size of the current plant, the expansion project will add nearly $3 million to the local payroll.
