Building Materials Manufacturer Plans $70M Maryland Headquarters

A maker of construction materials plans to establish a new headquarters and manufacturing site in central Maryland, local officials said this week.

The Hagerstown Herald-Mail reports that Blair Materials plans to take over a 336,000-square-foot building on the city’s west side. The site formerly served as a RadioShack distribution center, which closed after the electronics retailer declared bankruptcy in 2015.

Blair, whose products include rolled roofing materials, is expected to spend at least $70 million renovating and expanding the facility to 554,000 square feet, county officials told the paper.

Maryland and Washington County economic development agencies each authorized loans of $120,000 to support the project. The terms of those deals require Blair to invest $70 million and hire 40 new employees by the end of next year, and the company must retain those jobs and continue its warehouse and manufacturing operations at the site for the duration of the 10-year loans.
