On November 16, tire manufacturer Bridgestone announced a $40 million expansion of its Tennessee truck and bus tire facility.
Bridgestone plans to add 32,000 square feet of manufacturing space and invest in new equipment at the Morrison, Tennessee plant, which would increase production capacity to 9,400 tires per day by the end of 2020 — an increase of 275 tires per day over current levels.
Company officials said the three-year project would allow Bridgestone to meet customer and market demands for commercial truck and bus radial tires. Construction is expected to begin by the end of the year.
Eric Higgs, the head of the company’s regional truck, bus, and retread tire operations, called the announcement “an important step in our efforts to meet the evolving needs of fleet customers.”
Bridgestone operates two additional manufacturing facilities in Tennessee, one in suburban Nashville and another northeast of Memphis.
