ZyXEL Acclaimed as Taiwan's First "Green Enterprise", Second Best in Asia

(Hsinchu, November 26, 2007) ZyXEL Communications (TSE: 2391), the world-leading broadband access solutions provider announced that in the "CG (Clean & Green) Watch 2007" report, released by Asian Corporate Governance Association (ACGA) and CLSA Limited, ZyXEL has been ranked second place in Asia's "Green Enterprises" out of 582 companies. ZyXEL shares second place with prestigious international enterprises, including Hong Kong's HSBC and Japan's Sharp, NEC and Toyota. Within Taiwan however, ZyXEL is second to none. Given such acclaim, ZyXEL's efforts towards environmental care and energy saving are positively recognized by the international community.

The "Clean & Green Survey" conducted by ACGA and CLSA toward major Asian enterprises emphasizes environmental awareness from top executives, the companies' understanding and response to environmental issues, relevant policy declarations to investors and the surrounding communities, as well as the companies' future projections. With down-to-earth environmental policies and in-house designed "green management" techniques, ZyXEL was able to win high scores and stand out in the competitive survey.

"With social responsibility being a part of ZyXEL's core corporate values, we have always strived to be a green enterprise. We always pay special attention to environmental care without any reservations," said Dr. Yuh-Long Chen, ZyXEL's President. "And with environment issues now taking the center stage in the world, the outstanding performance on environment-friendliness and energy-saving has become an asset on the international marketplace."

ZyXEL not only makes its operations comply fully with the three EU directives - WEEE (Waste Electronics and Electrical Equipment), RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) and the recent EuP (Eco-Design Requirements for Energy Using Products), but also enforces the policy when dealing with suppliers. In order to realize this "green management" standard, ZyXEL management organized a unique "Coordinated Information System" to handle "cradle to grave" stages such as material supply, manufacturing, assembly, transportation, and the use and decommission of its products for environmental care.

By employing more energy-efficient, waste-reducing, lightweight materials that are toxin free and easily recyclable in product design and listed in complied "Green Products databases", ZyXEL is doing its part to stay green. ZyXEL regularly generates 3R (Reuse, Recycle and Recovery) and disassembly reports on the recycling processes for end-of-life products, outlining related achievement targets and successes. The "Environment Design Declaration" is also published on the ZyXEL Website for branch offices and distributors to observe in order to build a comprehensive recycling management model. In addition, ZyXEL has also established a "WEEE Registration Control and Management Platform" to assist and manage ZyXEL branch offices and distributors in registering with the environmental authorities of their respective countries.

In response to the "Carbon Footprint" issues that are significantly gaining momentum in the international communities, ZyXEL is now aggressively establishing the CO2 control and evaluation systems in the entire lifecycles of all of its products. Upon the completion of this system, ZyXEL will take its efforts a step further by actively decreasing its green house gas emissions, and thus underlining its role as a responsible global corporate citizen.
