New Vizia-RF from Leviton Uses Zensys(TM) Z-Wave® Technology
Little Neck, NY, October 14 2006 - Leviton home controls alliance partner, Zensys Inc., (Freemont, California) was recently named by The Wall Street Journal as one of the winners of its 2006 Technology Innovation Awards. Zensys won in the wireless category for its Z-Wave® technology, a RF (radio frequency)-based two-way communication network. Leviton's line of Vizia-RF(TM) lighting and home control products use Zensys' Z-Wave® technology to send and receive command signals that control lighting, appliances, temperature, security and other home systems.
Z-Wave-enabled devices, including Leviton's Vizia RF line of switches, dimmers, controllers and appliance modules, use a mesh network topology for superior RF signal performance and reliability. With the mesh network, command signals that may be blocked along one path will automatically be routed along another path in the network. To provide homeowners with maximum convenience, security and safety benefits, the Z-Wave network can be reconfigured by adding or removing devices at any time. More than 125 home electronics companies have joined the Z-Wave Alliance, formed last year to establish Z-Wave as the de facto open standard for residential home control applications.
Now in its sixth year, The Technology Innovation Awards are presented to companies whose technology represents a breakthrough from conventional methods, rather than an incremental technological improvement. This year, the panel of judges considered new technology in several categories: medicine and medical devices; wireless, security, consumer electronics, semiconductors and others. Other prominent award winners include: Sun Microsystems for its DTrace trouble-shooting software, HelioVolt for its lightweight solar-energy panels and Pfizer and Nektar Therapeutics for their development of powdered inhalable insulin.
