Yazoo Selects Scalable Braumat Compact

ATLANTA - Since opening its doors in 2003, craft brewer Yazoo Brewing Company, Nashville, Tenn., has grown 50 percent annually. To keep up with this consistent annual increase in business, Yazoo has installed the fully scalable Braumat Compact brewery control system from Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc.

The system allows small and mid-sized brewers to cost-effectively use the functionality of the proven Braumat package combined with the automation technology platform of the SIMATIC® PCS 7 distributed control system.

Yazoo Owner Linus Hall says the company will initially use the control system for central fermentation temperature control, replacing single-loop controllers throughout the brewery.

"Setting the correct temperature profile has been challenging in the past," Hall says. "We now have better temperature control and consistency. This is the first stage of a multistage expansion. In the future, we look forward to taking advantage of other functions of the control system."

The Braumat library is pre-integrated into the system and provides all the functions needed for automation, monitoring and control, and engineering of a brewery. The all-in-one control system can easily expand to a client/server architecture with dedicated controllers thus supporting the growth and expansion plans of a brewery.

"The Braumat Compact system gives brewers like Yazoo a cost-effective brewing solution based on the powerful and well-known Braumat package," says Ed Montgomery, Siemens Brewing Industry manager. "The system can grow with them and provides the tools to constantly improve the quality and consistency of their craft products."
