Sciaky, Inc. to Showcase Groundbreaking Additive Manufacturing Solution at TCT Live 2012
Chicago, Illinois - Sciaky, Inc., a subsidiary of Phillips Service Industries (PSI) and world-renowned supplier of electron beam, advanced arc and resistance welding solutions, will feature its groundbreaking Additive Manufacturing (AM) process, most commonly referred to as Direct Manufacturing, at TCT Live 2012.
Sciaky's Direct Manufacturing technology is the only large-scale, fully-programmable means of achieving near-net shape parts, made from high-value metals like titanium, stainless steel, nickel and refractory alloys. The process combines computer-aided design (CAD), Sciaky's state-of-the art electron beam welding technology, and layer-additive processing. Starting with a 3D model from a CAD program, Sciaky's fully-articulated, free-moving electron beam gun deposits metal, layer by layer, until the part is complete and ready for finish machining. Depending on the part being manufactured, deposition rates can range from 15 to 40 pounds of metal per hour.
"Manufacturers can save significant time and money over traditional manufacturing methods with Sciaky's Direct Manufacturing technology," said Mike Riesen, General Manager of Sciaky, Inc. "We can make functional prototypes and production parts up to 20 feet in length and eight feet high, using a wide variety of high-density metals."
