Wyse Technology Aids Hurricane Katrina Victims with Immediate Access to Health News and Family Information

Quick Installation and Reliability of Wyse Thin Clients Empower Emergency Response Team With Critical Internet Access in Tough Conditions

SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Wyse Technology, the global leader in thin computing, today announced a donation of Wyse S90 thin client computers to aid Hurricane Katrina victims and emergency workers from the San Jose-based CityTeam Ministries. The devices will be used in computing center on the Mississippi coast and will be administered by members of the CityTeam Ministries emergency response team.

CityTeam is trained to start, operate and staff emergency shelters. The team needed help to deliver computers with Internet access to hurricane victims and relief workers. Wyse stepped in to provide the thin client terminals, which will -- in conjunction with battery power and wireless relay help from Inveneo -- connect aide workers and victims of the hurricane to the Internet, and resources like FEMA, as well as web sites that provide information on reaching family members and loved ones.

"Because Wyse thin clients contain no moving parts and require virtually no setup or management, they are ideally suited for environmental conditions in which traditional computers often fail. As a result, large numbers of thin clients can be reliably deployed to disaster areas very quickly, and easily managed with advanced Wyse software from remote locations," said John Kish, President and Chief Executive Officer, Wyse Technology. "Hurricane Katrina victims and emergency workers alike will get a critical information lifeline at a time when most infrastructure has been destroyed. We hope our small gesture will help the victims of this horrible tragedy cope."

"In our nearly 100 years of helping disaster victims and the homeless through a wide variety of problems, including food shortages, shelter and grief counseling, we have learned that setting up computing systems in disaster areas is a difficult task," said Carol Garnett-Patterson, Vice President, CityTeam Ministries. "We are grateful that Wyse Technology has helped us expand the list of critical services we can provide to include Internet access, which allows stranded hurricane victims let their friends and family know that they are alright, and helps emergency workers coordinate resources with the government and private donors."

The Wyse S90 thin clients were delivered to CityTeam Ministries earlier this week into a caravan of trucks destined for Hancock County, Mississippi, where a disaster relief team is setting up a self-contained base camp where employees and volunteers will live for many months.
