Worksman Cycles Factory Goes Green

Worksman Cycles has long been known for manufacturing Industrial Grade
Tricycles and Bicycles in the USA. The company has been manufacturing
bicycles and tricycles in New York City for over a century. Worksman Cycles
is best known for industrial grade tricycles that are used in large factories and
warehouses for personnel movement. Naturally the company has always
pointed out in its advertising and promotional literature that it's products
required no fuel and emitted no fumes.
"We are promoting a "green" product line before the term "green" existed.
For all these years we've been promoting environmentally beneficial products
and now we have taken the next step towards environmental responsibility"
reports company president Wayne Sosin.
Located in a section of New York City called Ozone Park, The Worksman
Cycles factory occupies a city block. "With all we've read about Global
Warming and inspired by documentaries such as An Inconvenient Truth, the
company set it's goals on becoming proactive in this regard. We analyzed our
energy consumption and delivery systems and recycling efforts" said Sosin.
"we realized that we could be and must be part of the solution".
The major project currently under construction is the installation of a Solar
Energy System on the company warehouse roof. A 15KW system featuring 72
Solar Panels will produce approximately 20-25% of the company's electricity
requirements to run the factory. It is expected to be on line by January 2008.
To reduce the overall electricity required, every light fixture (over 400
fixtures) in the factory and office are being converted to high efficiency lighting
systems. On the heating side, the entire factory roof surface is being
insulated and re-surfaced. Also, a reflective coating has been added tot he
entire roof surface in an effort to better insulate the building and to fight global
warming.
