ARLINGTON, Va. -- AIA presented its 2011 Worker Safety Excellence Awards to GE Aviation, Northrop Grumman Corporation and Honeywell Aerospace May 4. The presentation was made at AIA's Environment, Safety and Health Committee's Spring Conference in Phoenix, Arizona.

"These awards are an annual tribute to the commitment of industry to our workers' health and safety," said AIA President and CEO Marion C. Blakey. "I'd like to congratulate not just the winners, but all the companies who participated in the program."

The Worker Safety Excellence Awards recognize companies that demonstrate key elements of a corporate safety program and achieve the lowest injury and illness rates within four aerospace industry sectors.

GE Aviation took top honors for the Most Improved Worker Safety category. This award is for most improved performance from 2009 through 2010 in reducing injury and illness rates.

Northrop Grumman Corporation took first place honors in the Aircraft Manufacturing sector for the Worker Safety Excellence Award.

Honeywell Aerospace set a program record winning the Worker Safety Excellence Awards in three sectors: Engine and Engine Parts, Space and Missiles and Guidance and Communications.

The Worker Safety Excellence Awards were established six years ago to highlight worker health and safety programs.
