Why and What are Autonomous Self Driving for Trucks for Commercial Transportation?
One of the most popular trends in the automotive (and electronics) industry today is that of the autonomous self-driving vehicles. This latest innovation has changed the way people (and business owners) think about the vehicles industry. Driver-less, automated vehicles that can cover enormous distances on their very own is what is now the future of the automotive industry. We all know about several examples of self-driving cars projects that are going to serve the general public in the future (such as Google's self-driving car) but in this article, we take a look at autonomous self-driving vehicles that have been manufactured specifically for the purpose of commercial transportation.
OTTO is the first example that comes to mind when we talk about self-driven vehicles for transporting goods and material. Otto itself is an American automotive company that specializes in manufacturing self-driving vehicles. OTTO, the self-driving truck, on the other hand is a project that is currently in the beta-testing phase and can be seen on the streets in the United States. The truck is an automated vehicle that has been made for the purpose of transporting material and goods from one location to another without the need for a driver. This reduces the cost of labor and enhances efficiency and productivity by monitored systems that keep track of the truck's movements.
Budweiser beer is a company that has already started using the autonomous vehicles offered by Otto for transporting their goods. This shows us that the day when all commercial transportation will be carried out by self-driven vehicles is not far away. In fact, it is estimated that by 2025, one-third of all long haul trucks will be semi-autonomous. Looking at the success of Otto and the growing trend of autonomous vehicles, other companies such as Ford and Uber have also shown keen interest in manufacturing (and acquiring) these self-driving trucks for commercial transportation. It is likely that we will see numerous companies working on the development and manufacture of these autonomous trucks in the near future.
In Europe, countries such as the UK, Italy, France, Germany, and Spain have taken initiatives towards the development of robotic transportation vehicles. These countries are planning to operate these vehicles for the transportation of commercial goods and products in the near future. For this purpose, they have even allowed robotic cars to be a part of everyday traffic (to quicken up the testing phase for the project). French companies Valeo and THALES have even partnered together to test their own driverless vehicles for this purpose. This shows how the government in these states are also promoting the cause of autonomous self-driving vehicles to pave a path for an innovative and automated transport system.
Having said this, there is still a lot of work to be done in the autonomous industry. The real challenge that the industry faces is to incorporate these vehicles within the human environment where there are several complex variables to consider as well. However, we can safely say that the progress that has currently been made is quite impressive and with Otto's trucks already on the road, we will soon be seeing robotic vehicles operating on the roads on a daily basis.
Finally, the top reasons as to why new commercial vehicles buyers have started to move towards autonomous and self-driving are:
- Retail customers that end up buying products want Luxury, Convenience, Comfort and time saving technology does favors.
- Peace of mind gets you the desired satisfaction and safety from human errors.
- Cost savings
- Time savings and efficiency.
- Accessible for the elderly people and those disabled.
The commercial transport buyers wishing to buy today want the most of their money. The automation has brought a revolution in the property industry with people wishing to buy automation to ease themselves and their busy lives of their customers.
