AC Induction Motors, Paired with New CFW11 VF Inverters with OptimalFlux(TM) Technology, Reduce Heat Build-Up, Double Service Life

ATLANTA, GEORGIA - October 26, 2008 - WEG Electric Corp. (www.weg.net), a leading global supplier of motors, drives, controls, transformers, and generators, announces a more efficient motor/drive combination that can significantly increase motor efficiency, as well as double the motor life in applications requiring variable speed and constant torque.

"When a WEG AC induction motor is paired with our new WEG CFW11 inverter with Vectrue(TM) and OptimalFlux(TM) technologies, users get a power-packed, highly efficient motor/drive package that reduces the build-up of heat, doubles motor life, and reduces operating costs," said Jorge Velazquez, manager, WEG Automation Division.

WEG's patented OptimalFlux technology allows a WEG standard, totally enclosed, fan-cooled (TEFC) induction motor to operate at a much cooler temperature. Rather than conventional technology that maintains a constant flux, OptimalFlux technology optimizes motor flux levels across the entire speed range. The result is a motor that runs cooler, particularly at low speeds where an integral fan no longer provides efficient cooling.

"The added advantage with this technology," Velazquez noted, "you can replace an oversized, more expensive Inverter Class induction motor with a standard NEMA High or Premium Efficient (NPE) motor to improve efficiency and save space and money."
For maximum efficiency, WEG's new generation of CFW11 variable frequency inverters feature Vectrue technology, which combines V/F, Sensorless Vector, VVW, and vector (with encoder) control techniques all in one product. These inverters have efficiency ratings greater than 97% and offer design features that improve motor control and operational functions.

CFW11 inverters use intelligent thermal management to protect IGBTs and to monitor heatsink and internal air temperature. Each inverter is equipped with a heatsink fan speed sensor that ensures automatic control with additional protection.

Additional innovations with WEG CFW11 inverters: Plug and Play (connect and use) technology for easy installation and safe operation, a built-in memory card to create functions without the use of an external PLC, and a USB connection for PC and Windows(TM) environments.
