Vulcan GMS Expands Machining Capabilities
Vulcan GMS has added new capabilities in our machining department. We have always offered machining capabilities focused on lead and tungsten manufacturing services. Vulcan continues to offer these unique capabilities but we have expanded by adding a dedicated machining cell to focus on other materials including; aluminum, steel, copper, brass, molybdenum, tin, bismuth, plastics and more. This is all in addition to the lead machining services our customers recognize us for.
Vulcan currently has 12 vertical or horizontal CNC machining centers, 4 CNC lathes, 2 CNC routers, 7 manual machines and 5 CMMs. Our size capability in machining is 50" x 26" x 25" and our size capability in turning is 18.5 OD x 40" long.
Vulcan specializes in low to medium volume production. We can offer lot sizes all the way down to 1 piece per lot. Vulcan frequently runs quantities of 5, 10, 20 and 30 pieces as well. Through our investment in quick-change out tooling, we can cost effectively produce smaller quantities and our machines will typically change out 1-4 times per day with different products. We have found methods to be effective for this type of change out. Typical single runs are under 100 pieces.
Vulcan also has expanded the hours in the machining areas to allow for 2 or 3 shifts based on the work load.
Vulcan GMS has always been a source for high quality and dependable delivery in lead and tungsten products. This expansion into other metals allows us to grow with our customers and new opportunities by offering more services.
Vulcan is also expanding the assembly and kitting services we offer to the market today. Through this expansion we are now capable of more assembly and higher level assemblies. In addition, Vulcan can help you with a kitting solution to fit your needs. We can create products and source products so that you can place one purchase order and get a single kit. That kit could be many parts from one single source to reduce your cost in cutting and managing POs and vendors.
