VMAC CEO, Jim Hogan, To Be Panelist At 2018 Economic Summit

Nanaimo, BC, October 18, 2018 - VMAC’s CEO and co-founder, Jim Hogan, has been selected to be a panelist at the Vancouver Island Economic Alliance (VIEA) 2018 State of the Island Economic Summit. The VIEA Economic Summit is an annual event for business, youth, First Nations, and political leaders to analyze the region’s economy, and promote actions to grow economic exports and activities in the global marketplace.

Entitled ‘Bouncing Higher – The Resilient Entrepreneur’ the panel discussion will feature five diverse entrepreneurs discussing the inevitable challenges and hardships that entrepreneurs are faced with, and share what it is that has helped them bounce back.

“It’s an honor to have the opportunity to be on the economic summit’s panel alongside these business leaders,” says Jim Hogan, VMAC’s CEO. “This inclusive event draws a wide range of like-minded professionals and community leaders all with the common goal of advancing the local economy, and I look forward to the event.”

“We asked Jim to join us on the panel because he represents much of what we know the audience is looking for in our panelists: a highly successful entrepreneur who has made a significant impact on the industry and on the business, technology, and manufacturing landscape of Vancouver Island,” says Clemens Rettich, Senior Manager, Business Consulting, with Grant Thornton LLP, and panel moderator. “Knowing the outlines of Jim’s and VMAC’s stories over the last few years, we knew he would be able to speak from experience and from the heart regarding the challenges and the joys of entrepreneurship.”

As co-founder of VMAC, Jim Hogan was the Chief Engineer until 2010 when the untimely death of co-founder and company president Tony Menard rocked the company. At this time, Jim took over as head of VMAC. In 2017 a new President was appointed, and Jim became VMAC’s CEO, and resumed work in engineering, specializing in advanced R&D projects. “I hope my story and experience will help someone find the motivation and inspiration to continue developing their business, despite any difficulties they may face,” says Mr. Hogan.

This two-day economic summit includes keynote presentations from several high-profile members of provincial and federal government, including BC Premier John Horgan, Minister Bains, Canada’s Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister Wilkinson, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard. With several concurrent sessions to choose from, and networking opportunities, the Economic Summit is the premier event for business and community leaders.

This year’s VIEA State of the Island Economic Summit will take place on Wednesday, October 24th, and Thursday, October 25th, 2018 at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre in Nanaimo, BC.
