Verizon Business to Rev up Voice Assessment and Performance Capabilities for Private IP Customers

Companies Offered Greater Control and Assurance for VoIP Applications

BASKING RIDGE, N.J., May 1 -- Verizon Business Private IP Customers that have or are planning to deploy voice over IP (VoIP) will be able to better assess voice quality over their networks and manage them more efficiently.

Verizon Business Tuesday (May 1) announced Network Assessment with Voice, an innovative reporting service targeted to be available globally later this month for U.S.-based multinational customers, as part of the company's Application Aware suite of reporting tools.

In addition, to further support the deployment of VoIP, Verizon Business will provide Private IP customers with an industry-leading service level agreement (SLA) that measures audio clarity.

"As customer demand for VoIP deployment increases, we're enhancing our Private IP services to help improve the quality of voice traffic," said Mike Marcellin, vice president of product marketing with Verizon Business. "We continue to expand Private IP's presence and capabilities to help ensure that our customers are able to leverage the benefits of the convergence of voice, data and video applications moving across their global corporate networks."

Verizon Business is announcing this news today at the FutureNet show in New York City.

Network Assessment With Voice

By offering greater network application visibility, Verizon Business' Network Assessment with Voice service, powered by Centrisoft, enables enterprise customers to cost-effectively and efficiently manage their overall local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) when deploying VoIP.

For example, the new service helps customers: ensure that VoIP solutions are deployed correctly by accurately sizing the network at the outset; fine- tune VoIP call quality in an existing network running both data and voice traffic; and appropriately prioritize network traffic to accommodate voice applications.

Network Assessment with Voice offers additional benefits and is not limited to enterprises using Private IP or even Verizon Business service. The service can be used to inventory all network application traffic and enable IT managers to determine if certain applications are interfering with VoIP data. This service represents a cost-effective alternative to an in-house or a hardware-based solution that would require significant investment by the customer.

Verizon Business launched its Application Aware suite of reporting capabilities in March 2006 to provide Private IP customers more control of their networks and greater visibility into network performance. Nearly 1,000 customers leverage these capabilities at over 20,000 sites worldwide. The company recently announced enhancements to these reporting capabilities, including increased customization of network and application performance reporting tools, and global availability to customers in the 121 countries and territories where Private IP is available.

Mean Opinion Score SLA

Verizon Business' introduction of a new SLA, called a Mean Opinion Score (MOS) SLA, further demonstrates the company's commitment to supporting VoIP deployment. The MOS SLA, which augments the current Jitter SLA available for VoIP and video applications, uses a quantitative measure of audio clarity as defined by the ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector. The measure tests the end-users' voice-quality experience.

Verizon Business' new SLA provides that monthly average MOS performance for VoIP traffic on a Private IP customer's U.S. network will not drop below 4.0, a highly desirable score for IP telephony networks. This SLA sets a new bar for the quality of VoIP traffic running over MPLS networks.

Verizon Business recently announced several new SLAs available to all Private IP customers, including an enhanced Time to Repair (TTR) SLA. It is based on the amount of time taken to restore service during an outage, rather than the average or Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) service outages.

Verizon Business' Private IP service is an optimal platform for converged services, as it allows for prioritization of applications via six classes of service (CoS). An organization can customize prioritization to ensure that business-critical applications receive a higher priority across the organization's network. Real time CoS makes Private IP ideal for carrying latency-sensitive traffic such as VoIP and digital video.

Verizon Business is a recognized leader delivering IP services for business customers around the world. The company recently announced that it was awarded the 2006 Frost & Sullivan Product Line Strategy Award for Enterprise WAN services. Verizon Business was recognized for its ability to introduce new WAN products that are strategically positioned to balance its already robust overall product line. The Frost & Sullivan Award for Product Line Strategy is presented each year to a company that has demonstrated the most insight into customer needs and product demands.
