UTStarcom Selects Motorola AdvancedTCA Communications Servers

Helps Decrease Infrastructure Costs and Improve Time-to-market of Next-generation IP-based Multi-service Platform

TEMPE, Ariz., April 9, 2007 // -- UTStarcom, Inc. and Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced that UTStarcom has selected Motorola's AdvancedTCA(R) (ATCA(R)) communications servers as a carrier-grade common platform for the company's top selling mSwitch(R) IP-based multi-service platforms. UTStarcom expects that the latest open standard ATCA technology from Motorola will help enable it to deliver cost-effective, scalable and highly available solutions to network operators in Asia and worldwide.

"We are pleased to announce UTStarcom's collaboration with the leading provider of ATCA communications servers," said Pat Chan, senior vice president and general manager of UTStarcom's Network Solutions Business Unit. "By selecting Motorola, we believe UTStarcom will be able to significantly enhance the customer experience by leveraging Motorola's experience and technology expertise to decrease infrastructure costs, improve time-to-market and focus on revenue-generating applications and solutions for our mSwitch product portfolio."

"UTStarcom's selection of Motorola's communications servers is further evidence that the adoption of ATCA is growing in Asia and throughout the world," said Stephen Dow, vice president and general manager, Embedded Communications Computing, Motorola. "We believe that deployment of open, standards-based communications servers as a common platform for a portfolio of applications will help network equipment providers lower CAPEX and OPEX and speed time-to-market."

A portion of the revenue on this agreement was recognized in fiscal year 2006.

Motorola's communications servers are open, fully integrated systems that act as a common, carrier-grade platform for a wide range of applications. This common platform concept integrates hardware and software elements to enable equipment manufacturers to focus on adding their application-specific value, thereby reducing the time, cost and risk involved in deploying new revenue-generating applications or migrating existing applications to standards-based technology.
