USIS Swaps Out Fluorescent Lighting for MaxLite's LED Troffers

"We selected the LED fixtures because of price, but we were more impressed with their light output and brightness. We sampled other fixtures that cost more than $100 than the ECO-Ts, but they did not perform as well. Down the road, I think we will retrofit our whole office space with LED lighting."

- Gary Fandl, Electrician at USIS

The Challenges

Part of the New York state load shed program, the Pearl River branch of USIS, a leading voice and data installation company in the metro area with electrical, audio/visual, construction, access control and fire alarm divisions, sheds it load a few times a year and runs on generators, and in return the branch gets rebates for energy saved. The branch sought economically priced quality and energy-efficient lighting fixtures to be installed throughout its general office spaces.

The Solution

USIS replaced 45 recessed troffers with four 40-watt 2'x4' fluorescent T8 lamps each with 45 of MaxLite's 55-watt 2'x4' ECO-T™ LED Recessed Troffers. This retrofit reduced the wattage consumption from 160 watts to just 55 watts for each of the 45 installed fixtures.

The Benefits

By swapping out the 45 inefficient fluorescent troffers with MaxLite's DesignLights Consortium®-qualified ECO-Ts, the Pearl River branch of USIS will save 236,343 kWh of energy and $37,530 in energy and maintenance costs over the 50,000-hour L70-rated lifetime of the LED fixtures. Frandl also commented that the ECO-T was sampled side-by-side with a competing product, and MaxLite's troffer replacement was much brighter. Fandl also noted that the workforce has provided positive feedback about the new lighting, and gave compliments about the steady, constant light that no longer flickered or buzzed while in use.
