Tyco Electronics Renews Touch Control Agreement, Adds Design and Manufacturing Centers

HARRISBURG, Pa. - March 24, 2006 - Tyco Electronics recently renewed its relationship and entered into a worldwide exclusive licensing agreement with Pressenk Instruments, Inc. of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Under the terms of the agreement, Tyco Electronics will continue to market Touch Control Technology (TCT). TCT is a solid-state touch control method that uses Pressenk's patented touch technology (US Patent #5,760,715; CA Patent # 2,202,789, EP Patent # 0,802,500) to provide an innovative alternative to other switch technologies such as membrane switches, mechanical keyboards and solid-state keyboards.

TCT technology provides cost effective alternatives beyond existing solid-state keyboards, such as capacitive, infrared, piezo-effect, field-effect, and other types of touch control. Appliance controls, industrial process controls, kiosks, point of sale (POS) terminals, medical equipment and automobiles are among the many applications where TCT technology can be used.

Tyco Electronics has established TCT design centers in Canada and India with manufacturing facilities in Canada, USA, India and China. Tyco Electronics' extensive component product portfolio supports full integration of TCT packages including printed circuit boards and assemblies, connectors, cable assemblies, overlays, power switching components and circuit protection.

TCT technology provides robust and versatile performance in a wide range of environments. TCT hardware can be environmentally sealed to IP67 and the device operates in temperatures from -20 deg. C up to +105 deg. C.

Virtually any dielectric material including glass, plastic, marble, leather, or any rough or smooth surface less than 20 mm thick can be used as the touch interface. Also, recent innovations include hollow key backlighting, keypads with clear substrates and incremental switching. TCT is rated for up-to ten million touch cycles and has no mechanical link between the touch interface and the control electronics, which increases product life.

Designers may design their own keypad in conjunction with one of the standard TCT microcontrollers, or Tyco Electronics is able to provide a full turnkey touch control assembly.
