TRUMPF Inc. Receives Silver Level Innovation Prize for TC L 3040 Laser Cutting Machine

FARMINGTON, Conn., November 3, 2005 - TRUMPF Inc. has received a Connecticut Quality Improvement Award silver level Innovation Prize. The award recognizes TRUMPF's TC L 3040 laser cutting machine and its inventive high-speed axis, which efficiently minimizes machining times.

The innovative design of the TC L 3040, a 5-by-10 ft. flat sheet laser cutting machine is modeled after the TC L 3030, one of TRUMPF's most popular laser cutting machines. A smaller, lightweight independently-operating axis allows the laser cutting head to accelerate and decelerate faster. The laser power is synchronized to the machine drives, enabling the laser to cut during accelerations and decelerations. The TC L 3040 is the first machine to achieve high G-forces while maintaining a high-quality laser cut in the process. As a result, cycle times can be reduced by nearly 30 percent in some parts.

This is the fourth consecutive year in which TRUMPF has won a CQIA innovation prize. The Connecticut Quality Improvement Award recognizes Connecticut manufacturing and service companies that excel in quality improvements for business success and growth.

TRUMPF is currently a world leader in industrial lasers and fabricating machinery. The U.S. subsidiary of the TRUMPF Group, TRUMPF Inc. invests heavily in research and development devoting more than 70 jobs and $13.3 million in R&D last year. TRUMPF's laser factory in Connecticut is one of the largest Nd:YAG and CO2 laser manufacturing facilities in the United States.
