LTPS Technology

The Wednesday, June 7, presentation by Mr. Nishibe will address the fact that low-temperature polycrystalline-silicon (LTPS) TFT-LCDs are on their way to becoming an advanced display technology that opens opportunities for System-on-Glass (SOG). The improvement of poly-Si TFTs is essential in achieving value-added displays where circuits for various functions are integrated on one substrate. Recent SOG development will be briefly described, including circuit integration or function integration such as scanner and touch-panel devices utilizing poly-Si photo-sensor.

Views on the Present and Future Promise of OLED Displays

Mr. Ibaraki's presentation on Thursday, June 8, discusses the challenges of OLED displays with respect to light-emitting materials, device structure and panel components. The optical and electrical characteristics of OLED displays were quantitatively evaluated and their performance versus LCD and CRT technologies were compared. The optical characteristics were found to be superior to that of LCDs.

Hyper-Reality Head-Dome Projector (HDP) Using an LED Light Source

Mr. Okumura's presentation will address a novel hyper-reality display called Head Dome Projector (HDP) that was developed, consisting of a compact dome-shaped screen with a radius of 40cm, a mobile projector with ultra-wide projection lens, and LED light sources. The system exhibits a wide viewing angle of 120 degrees horizontally by 70 degrees vertically without head tracking, and 360 degrees x 360 degrees with head tracking. System comparison results are presented.
