North Kingstown, RI (October 29, 2006)-Industry innovator Toray Plastics (America), Inc. (www.torayfilms.com), North America's only manufacturer of precision-performance, value-added polypropylene and polyester packaging films, announces a quantum leap in barrier performance and structural design with the introduction of a "next generation" line of Torayfan® OPP co-extruded metallized and clear barrier films. New Torayfan PC5 and Torayfan PWX5 are unique patent-pending ultra-high-barrier metallized polypropylene films that offer ten times the oxygen barrier of metallized films from previous generations. Technologically advanced Torayfan PC5 and Torayfan PWX5 also offer exceptional moisture barrier. New Torayfan CBS-2, made with proprietary technology, is a high-barrier clear film that offers superior oxygen and moisture barrier. Now major consumer-product-goods manufacturers and converters can have extraordinary barrier protection with a variety of packaging applications, including snack food, baked goods, confections, and pet food, as well as medical, agricultural, and chemical products.

"These new Torayfan metallized and clear OPP films were developed specifically to help end users and converters grow business by offering unparalleled barrier capabilities and creative opportunities in package design," says Mike Brandmeier, vice president of sales and marketing. "A new unique high-performance barrier technology, which we use on a modified OPP base sheet, combined with other innovative Toray film technology, creates proprietary films that offer guaranteed barrier performance and help deliver consistently fresh products," he adds.

Following are details about Torayfan PC5, Torayfan PWX5, and Torayfan CBS-2.

New Torayfan PC5 ultra-high-barrier metallized film is a bi-axially oriented film that is vacuum deposited with aluminum on Toray's proprietary ultra-high-barrier layer and treated on the other side for laminations and cold-seal applications. It is designed for use as either an inner web of a lamination with converter-applied cold seal, or as a middle ply of a multi-layer lamination where it provides exceptional oxygen and moisture barrier.

New Torayfan PWX5 ultra-high-barrier metallized film is a bi-axially oriented film that is vacuum deposited with aluminum on Toray's proprietary ultra-high-barrier layer and is heat sealable on the other side. It is designed for use as an inside sealant web and provides moisture and oxygen barrier for gas-flushed applications. Ultra-high oxygen barrier is guaranteed with gas-flushable applications. Moisture barrier is guaranteed with other applications. In addition, superior formed-bag durability is maintained after the package is made. Torayfan PWX5 also offers an excellent hot tack and a wide heat seal range.

New Torayfan CBS-2 high-barrier clear film is a bi-axially oriented film with a proprietary new high-barrier layer on one side and heat sealability on the other side. Designed for use as an inside sealant web, it provides high oxygen barrier and exceptional moisture barrier. Torayfan CBS-2 also offers improved oil resistance, increased puncture resistance, and better stiffness.
