Tier 1 US Service Provider Selects Syndesis For IP Triple Play Service Delivery Management

TORONTO, ON, October 12, 2005 - Syndesis, the worldwide leader in service delivery
management solutions, today announced that one of the world's largest Tier 1 service
providers has selected the Syndesis Convergent Service Delivery Management(TM) portfolio
of solutions to manage delivery of all broadband service offerings, including nextgeneration
IP television, data and voice.
The contract, which has a guaranteed value approaching $40 million, is one of the largest
contracts ever awarded to an OSS software vendor and boosts Syndesis' sales to record
levels in a single year. It is the largest and broadest IP service delivery management deal
to date in the industry, underscoring Syndesis' position as the worldwide leader in
convergent service delivery management and the vendor of choice for IP Triple Play
management solutions.
With Syndesis' award-winning IP solutions, the US-based carrier will deliver new, featurerich
IP-based video, voice and high-speed Internet access to 18 million households by the
end of 2007. The carrier will unlock significant new revenue streams, achieve new
operations efficiencies, and create an incredible new customer experience that will set a
new standard in Triple Play bundles.
"This project demonstrates the unlimited potential for telecommunications companies to
provide new and integrated entertainment experiences for their customers. Consumers, in
turn, will be amazed by the ease of use, the ability to customize services, and a truly
differentiated user experience," said John Lochow, President and CEO for Syndesis. "The
selection of Syndesis recognizes our leadership position in enabling the telco IP Triple Play
and the benefits that it will bring to customers."

In addition to automating provisioning for integrated IP-based services, Syndesis also ensures
smooth integration with other OSS components and legacy applications, enabling consolidation of
internally built systems into the Syndesis solution. With such consolidation, the client can
accelerate introduction of new service offerings from a single, robust platform with a common
interface for multiple technologies. Benefits include centralized management of services with
associated cost savings, the ability to spread total cost of ownership across multiple projects and
services, integration and execution ease, and a reduction in human error.
Having met aggressive implementation schedules covering four service regions, Syndesis is
currently enabling the carrier to automate the provisioning and activation of IP-VPN, VLAN, ATM
and Frame Relay services. The carrier will extend its Syndesis implementation to cover an even
wider range of technologies and services -- including DSL, FTTP, FTTN, and VoIP. These services
provide the foundation for the carrier's innovative converged service offerings, which will see
consumers going beyond the call with services such as feature-rich IP-based video and high-speed
Internet access.
"After a lengthy review process and the evaluation of approximately half a dozen COTS solutions,
Syndesis was selected for this extensive, multi-faceted deployment based on its ability to meet the
carrier's immediate and long term requirements," said Chris Swan, SVP Sales, Marketing and
Alliances for Syndesis. "Syndesis has proven itself consistently in this account, with our strong
service ethic and our carrier-class software, enabling both the rapid implementation of next
generation services from a single, highly scalable product architecture and a truly differentiated user
experience. This master agreement recognizes these achievements and our industry leadership
position realizing the telco IP Triple Play."
Syndesis began working with this service provider in 2002 and has since successfully deployed
Syndesis® NetProvision(TM), Syndesis® NetDiscover(TM) and Syndesis® NetOptimizer(TM) as central
components of the carrier's leading-edge, next generation OSS architecture. This growing
relationship has repeatedly helped the carrier to exceed business objectives, contributing most
recently to sustained growth in wireline revenues and the carrier's number one ranking among U.S.
telecommunications providers for in-service DSL lines.

Syndesis' Expanding Role
Day-by-day, project-by-project, Syndesis has routinely demonstrated that its service delivery
management solutions and their accurate network model bring significant value across the carrier's
organization and across a range of critical functions.
- Syndesis NetProvision is being utilized to automate the provisioning and activation of ATM,
Frame, DSL, IP-VPN and VoIP services, replacing an imbedded legacy supplier unable to meet
growth demand and next generation functionality. Besides lowering OpEx through automation
and reduced fallout, Syndesis also ensures smooth integration with other OSS components
enabling the carrier to consolidate its internally built systems into the Syndesis solution.
- The carrier uses Syndesis NetDiscover to automate network uploads and service discovery
from its more than 5,000 node DSL access network and its heavily configured ATM/FR
backbone. This enables the carrier to maintain an accurate view of services and the underlying
physical and logical infrastructure, promoting operational efficiencies and first-time-right
processes. NetDiscover was initially deployed in the carrier's Layer 2 production environment in
just four weeks, uploading an average of 4,000 virtual circuits per minute from the carrier's WAN
backbone switches, in a completely seamless and non-intrusive manner.
- Syndesis NetOptimizer is being utilized for large-scale service migration and network
maintenance activities, such as ISP moves and DSLAM re-homing. A typical ISP move
involving more than 4,000 services once took the carrier more than 30 days and 10 dedicated
resources. With Syndesis, it can now be performed automatically within a single maintenance
window.
"Syndesis' continued success at this carrier is yet another example of our ability to provide
communications service providers with carrier-class products and the best support in the industry,"
added Lochow. "Supporting leading telecommunications companies like this requires superior
technology solutions and a high level of professionalism and responsiveness. Our success at this
carrier demonstrates that Syndesis has once again met the challenge of mission critical, Tier 1
production environments."
