Ticona Named to 'Premium Supplier Circle' by Conti and Schaeffler

Florence, Ky., Sulzbach, Germany, Shanghai, PR China, April 20, 2011 - Ticona, the engineering polymers business of Celanese Corporation, has been designated by Continental AG and Schaeffler GmbH as a premium supplier - one of 12 strategic suppliers who will play decisive roles in the future of the two global manufacturers.

Ticona has worked closely with Continental and Schaeffler for many years, and now it is being rewarded as a reliable supplier and initiator of innovation. On March 14, Ticona was recognized at the first joint Premium Supplier Day that was hosted by Continental and Schaeffler in Herzogenaurach, Germany. There, 12 suppliers were named to the Premium Supplier Circle. Ticona was the only manufacturer of high-performance polymers to receive this honor.

"As two of the worldwide leading system suppliers and in view of increasing technological demands, Schaeffler and Continental must work together with companies who share our beliefs and fulfill our high requirements," said Schaeffler Co-Owner Maria-Elisabeth Schaeffler, who stressed the importance of good relations with suppliers during her welcoming address at the Premium Supplier Day.

Innovation and Reliability

Ticona has been a reliable supplier and initiator of innovation for the automobile industry for decades. Ticona materials are excellently suited for use in various alternative fuel systems. For example, they reduce the weight of vehicles by substituting metals and are part of state-of-the-art safety systems as well as electronics components.

"The satisfaction of my customers is very important to me - therefore I am all the more delighted by this honor," said Stefan Diel, global key account manager for Continental and Schaeffler at Ticona.

Maria Ciliberti, commercial director for Ticona Europe, added: "This award not only recognizes our past collaboration together but also indicates the confidence Continental and Schaeffler have in Ticona to be their plastics supplier of choice for continued innovation and global strategic collaboration in the future. Together, we will achieve even more than we already have, bringing new solutions to the market that save energy and weight while being cost effective."

The 12 recognized companies were selected from 400 suppliers based on their fulfillment of the 10 criteria outlined in the statement of requirements for Premium Suppliers to the full extent.
