SAINT HERBLAIN, France., (June 15, 2008) - Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, announced today the winner of the 2008 Thermo Fisher Scientific 2008 Biotherapy Prize.

The members of the jury unanimously awarded this 11th Biotherapy Prize to Veronique Perrier. Mrs Perrier works in the INSERM 710 group, Montpellier, France, and her work's title was "Genic Therapy: efficient strategy for the late treatment of diseases involving prions: a comparison between lentiviral vectors and canine adenovirus".

The jury met on May 13th to evaluate the results. As every year, the ranking was based on criteria such as novelty, feasability and competitiveness. The scientific purpose of the project, its technical appropriateness and preliminary results presentation were also accounted for.

This prize rewards an innovating and ambitious project which addresses a therapeutic domain proving to be especially difficult - neuro-degenerative diseases induced by non-conventional agents. This project lies on gene transfer systems using canine viruses which proves to be particularly efficient in neuron cells transduction.

The jury wishes that this Prize be a real help for this young winner's future scientific career.

The ceremony took place during the 7th annual congress of the SFTCG, June 16th, 2008 in GIENS. Mrs Perrier received the 10,000 prize awarded to the winner.
The award confirms Thermo Fisher Scientific's active commitment to help research and improve the quality of life.
