The Pennsylvania State University and TelCove Partner on Major Joint Fiber Build


Link Established from State College Campus to Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center for Very High Speed Internet Access

STATE COLLEGE, Pa., Nov. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania State University and TelCove, a leading provider of business critical telecommunications services to enterprise customers and carriers, have partnered on a joint fiber build between Penn State's University Park campus at State College and the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center (PSC).

The PSC operates the Three Rivers Optical Exchange, a high-performance network hub through which Penn State gains Internet2 and commodity Internet access. This same network hub will now provide connection to a new Higher Education research network, the National LambdaRail. The joint build project will cover approximately 186 miles between State College and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Already a recognized research powerhouse, Penn State's high-speed fiber connectivity to the National LambdaRail will enable the University to test and run new bandwidth-intensive applications and technologies to maintain its leading edge.

"The National LambdaRail network is an optical infrastructure based network which will provide dedicated research bandwidth," said J.
