The New Factory of Yamaichi Electronics

Frankfurt (Oder), September 2020 – The Japanese Yamaichi Electronics Group has been producing in Frankfurt (Oder), the group's only production site in Europe, for almost 15 years. However, the production halls in the former semiconductor plant in Frankfurt-Markendorf, which the company moved into in 2006, were no longer able to cope with the required production capacities. For this reason, the European company management, based in Aschheim-Dornach near Munich, decided to build an extended new building. After successful commissioning in April of this year, the opening has now been celebrated.

On 3 September 2020 the time had come: after only one year of construction and a successful commissioning in April this year, the new plant was inaugurated and presented to the public in a festive ceremony.

A successful day with a varied programme

Numerous guests of honour, including Hendrik Fischer, State Secretary in the Ministry of Economics, Labour and Energy and René Wilke, Lord Mayor of the City of Frankfurt (Oder) accepted the invitation of Yamaichi Electronics, as well as representatives of the Brandenburg Economic Development Corporation and numerous business partners and press representatives.

Besides the ceremonial act, which was framed by speeches by Mr. Helge Puhlmann, European President of Yamaichi Electronics, Lord Mayor René Wilke and State Secretary Hendrik Fischer, the plant could be visited in small groups during a guided tour. A relaxed get-together with snacks rounded off the day. ARD presenter Markus Othmer led through the program and Monk Fish, the string trio of the Brandenburg State Orchestra, provided the musical accompaniment.

"Of course, we are delighted with the short construction time, the completion on schedule and the smooth start of the production. But I am really proud of the great team with whom we are continuing our success story at the new location," says Helge Puhlmann.

Our most valuable asset: our employees

In addition to the official opening ceremony, the employees and their families had the opportunity to discover the new plant on September 4. A rally with different stages invited the employees to explore the plant, at the end of which lucky winners were honoured.

The new plant - short response times and a fast realisation

The new production halls cover an area of more than 7.000 m² - i.e. 1.5 soccer fields - and are within a15-minute walk from the previous location in Markendorf. The production is highly automated and equipped with the latest Industry 4.0 technology.

The new plant offers the flexibility to produce in small, medium and large series. For almost all markets served by Yamaichi Electronics, such as semiconductors, automation, industry, automotive, medical technology or measurement and testing technology, production is carried out directly in Germany. The production "Made in Germany" includes e.g. cable assemblies, molded M12 circular connectors, metallic push-pull circular connectors, RJ45 and USB for harsh environments, protected Ethernet connectors, flexible flat cables and test adapters for semiconductor devices. Modules are also assembled, spring contact probes turned and individual strands compacted.

Thanks to the bundling of connector production and cable assembly at one production site, it is possible to react quickly to enquiries and ensure their prompt implementation. State-of-the-art production technologies and specialist knowledge in the fields of injection molding, metal cutting, assembly of components and resistance welding guarantee the high quality typical of the manufacturer. Naturally, the new production is also certified according to ISO 9001 and ISO 14.001.
