Tellabs and NTELOS Partner for High-Speed GPON Services

New GPON features on the Tellabs® 1150 multiservice access platform

NAPERVILLE, Ill., May 10 -- NTELOS, a communications provider serving portions of seven states, will deploy the new Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) features on the Tellabs® 1150 multiservice access platform to deliver four times more bandwidth to its customers. This additional bandwidth will enable NTELOS to deliver High Definition (HD) video services and faster data services.

"The deployment of the Tellabs 1150 platform's GPON architecture enables us to continue to evolve the NTELOS network to provide superior services to meet the sophisticated needs of our customers," said Glenn Butler, Director of Technology Planning and Switch Engineering for NTELOS. "The Tellabs solution provides a flexible architecture that enables us to rapidly deliver more services rapidly with greater bandwidth to our customers."

Tellabs' GPON products, part of the Tellabs® DynamicHomeSM solution, deliver up to 2.4 Gigabits per second (Gbps) downstream and up to 1.2 Gbps upstream. These speeds, the fastest available for residences, enable the delivery of reliable, high-quality voice, video and data services that users expect. With the installation of a new line module, the Tellabs 1150 platform offers a simple and cost-effective GPON fiber-to-the-premises solution, in addition to previously supported fiber-to-the-curb and fiber-to-the-node applications.

"It is our privilege to continue working with such a long-standing customer to advance the NTELOS network," said Carl DeWilde, executive vice president of broadband products for Tellabs. "With the new capabilities facilitated by GPON technology, NTELOS can deliver four times greater bandwidth, enabling faster movie and music downloads and higher quality online gaming."

The Tellabs® DynamicHomeSM solution enables service providers to deliver advanced video, voice and data services to residences and businesses.
