Tektronix RSA6100A Real-Time Spectrum Analyzer Wins 2007 DesignVision Award

IEC Technical Committee Recognizes RSA6100A for Unique Technology and Ability to Address Customer Needs

BEAVERTON, Ore., Feb. 1 /- Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE:TEK), a leading worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, announced that the International Engineering Consortium (IEC) has selected the RSA6100A Series Real-time Spectrum Analyzer as the winner of the DesignVision 2007 Award for Test & Measurement Equipment. Tektronix Real-Time Spectrum Analyzers (RTSA) are the only analyzers in the world that are designed to specifically solve digital RF problems.

The International Engineering Consortium presented the 2007 DesignVision Awards program in conjunction with the DesignCon conference. The awards are given to recognize technologies, applications, products and services judged to be the most unique and beneficial to the industry. Finalists were chosen from among a record-number of competing products by a panel of judges selected from DesignCon's Technical Program Committee. From these finalists, the 2007 DesignVision award winners are chosen for their innovative contributions and developments that have proven important to society.

Computing technologies have arrived in the radio world which has led to the replacement of analog filters and processors with digital technologies, or what is often termed "digital RF," where much of the design is implemented in software through the extensive use of digital signal processing (DSP). The rapid expansion of digital RF applications has driven the measurement needs of many applications including radar, mobile communications, software defined radio (SDR), cognitive radio and surveillance beyond the capabilities of swept spectrum and vector signal analysis. Most digital RF technologies enable time varying techniques to more efficiently use available spectrum, avoid interference and ensure seamless operation. Tektronix Real-Time Spectrum Analyzers are the only spectrum analyzers in the market designed to meet the needs of engineers and technicians who design and test digital RF technologies and applications.

"Our DesignVision Awards honor those catalyzing positive change in high-technology, business, and academia, completely in line with the IEC's mission," said IEC Executive Vice President Roger Plummer. "We're pleased to give tribute to the innovators who have helped advance progress in electronic design."

The Tektronix RSA6100A Series of Real-Time Spectrum Analyzers provide an unmatched combination of real-time performance, capture bandwidth, and dynamic range to meet the needs of a broad range of cutting-edge digital RF applications. DPX(TM) waveform image processor technology transforms volumes of real-time data to produce a live RF spectrum presentation that reveals previously unseen RF signals and signal anomalies. Live RF is achieved by improving the spectrum measurement rate nearly 1000 times compared to the fastest swept spectrum and vector signal analyzers (VSA). The revolutionary Live RF spectrum display provides an intuitive live color view of signal transients changing over time in the frequency domain, giving a user immediate confidence in the stability of their design, or instantly displaying a fault when it occurs.

"The change to digital RF is a potentially market changing event," said Rick King, Vice President, Real-Time Spectrum Analyzer Product Line, Tektronix. "It is an honor for the RSA6100A Real-Time Spectrum Analyzer to receive a DesignVision award, and reflects the special role the technology fills in wireless test. The RSA6100A Series will foster new digital RF applications and transform the performance and capability expectations of engineers for spectrum analyzers."
