TAOS, Inc. Moves to New, Expanded Headquarters in Plano, TX

Additional Square Footage Will Enable Company to Meet Increased Customer Needs Generated by Growing Demand for Optoelectronic Sensor Solutions

February 27, 2005 (Plano, TX) - Texas Advanced Optoelectronic Solutions®, Inc. (TAOS) announced today that growing demand for its optoelectronic sensor solution products has necessitated a move to new, expanded headquarters. Located at 1001 Klein Road, Suite 300 in Plano, TX, 75074, the new TAOS, Inc. offices provide almost 10,000 more square feet than the previous office facilities. TAOS, Inc. is retaining its phone number - 972-673-0759 - and its fax number - 972-943-0610.

"TAOS, Inc. considers this move to be an essential part of our growth strategy. It ensures that we will continue to provide effective customer support and new product development as we continue to grow," said Kirk Laney, TAOS, Inc. President and CEO. "Since we opened our doors seven years ago, we have been seeing a steadily growing demand for our optoelectronic sensors and it became very clear that, if we are going to maintain our commitment to excellent customer service, we would have to have a larger facility. Our new facility provides us with an additional 5,000 square feet immediately and, because our sales forecasts indicate continued long-term growth, we have negotiated to take on an additional 5,000 square feet within two years on an as needed basis."

Historically, applications requiring the sensing of light stimulus to execute a function have been implemented by either a photodiode or phototransistor - neither of which supports the emerging need for higher performance optical sensor-based applications. The TAOS light sensing technology - Lumenology® -- has enabled the development of intelligent optoelectronic sensors that simplify analog-to-digital conversion of light and are designed to reduce the need for signal conditioning or preprocessing circuitry in light-centric systems. TAOS light sensing solutions improve system performance and reduce design cycle time, giving designers the flexibility they require.

TAOS intelligent optoelectronic sensors touch many different aspects of every day life. For example, TAOS sensors are used in colorimeters to calibrate color displays and determine paint colors. TAOS infrared sensors in hand dryers detect the presence of a user to signal the blower fan to turn on. TAOS linear arrays make possible hand-held scanners and Brix meters. TAOS light-to-frequency converters are used in pulse oximeters. Their digital output and large input dynamic range provide an ideal optical sensor for a non-invasive means of determining arterial blood oxygen levels. The TAOS TSL2560 and the TSL2561 Light-to-Digital Converters are being used in flat panel displays (LCD, OLED, etc.) to help increase operating life and provide optimum viewing in diverse lighting conditions as well as extend battery life in mobile appliances. The TSL2560 (SMBus interface) is intended for use in notebook and tablet PCs. The TSL2561 (I²C interface) is ideal for use in LCD monitors, flat-panel televisions and cell phones. The new, low-voltage TSL2562 and TSL2563 Light-to-Digital Converters bring the same benefits to small display applications such as mobile phones, PDAs, portable media players, cameras, handheld games and camcorders.

Laney highlighted, "at TAOS, we are very proud of what we have accomplished since our inception. We are especially pleased that we are recognized as a leader that provides optical sensors for the display management market. During 2006, we will be announcing a series of new devices for our display management product portfolio. Each of these devices is designed to address a different need of the growing flat panel display market, and several also will play an important role in the emerging solid-state illumination market."
