Dr. Stefan Winkler to Speak on Measuring Quality of Experience (QoE) and Quality of Service (QoS) for Video

(NASDAQ: SYMM), today announced that Dr. Stefan Winkler, principal technologist for Symmetricom's QoE Assurance Division, is speaking at the Mobile TV World Congress 2008 in Paris, France. Taking place January 29 to February 1, 2008 together with the worldwide leading events TVoDSL and International SIP, Mobile TV World Congress is recognized by analysts as a key priority for network operators, as industry leaders worldwide address technical issues, the standardization process, business models, content delivery methods and more for mobile TV.

Dr. Winkler is speaking on Measuring Quality of Experience (QoE) and Quality of Service (QoS) for video. He will discuss the recognized need to perform QoE measurements along with traditional QoS measurements in TV to mobile deployments, as well as the best practices for implementing QoE successfully, all vital for maximizing IP video quality of service and revenues.

One of the world's top experts in digital media quality, Dr. Winkler serves as a principal technologist at Symmetricom's QoE Assurance Division. He was formerly chief scientist and co-founder of Genista Corporation, a provider of quality assurance solutions for IPTV and mobile media. He has also held assistant professor positions at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, and has worked for Hewlett-Packard, Siemens, German Aerospace and Andersen Consulting. Dr. Winkler has published more than 40 papers on perceptual quality measurement and is the author of the book, "Digital Video Quality." He has also been a member and contributor of the Video Quality Experts Group (VQEG) since its founding in 1997. Dr. Winkler holds a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Technology in Vienna, Austria and a doctorate from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland.
