Steinbichler Optotechnik at the AUTOMATICA 2012 - Automated Quality Assurance - Simple and Easy to Operate

Steinbichler Optotechnik GmbH from Neubeuern, the worldwide leading provider of optic measuring and sensor technology, shall place the newly developed automation software STEINBICHLER VISIO 7 and two innovative robot cells at the centre stage of its trade fair appearance at the AUTOMATICA 2012 (hall B2, stand 100). "We have developed an integrated, closed workflow for the automated quality assurance in the STEINBICHLER VISIO 7 software in which all process steps from the start of the project via the simulation and the analysis up to the logging can be mapped. This ensures the person in charge a high level of operating safety and also saves a lot of time during the programming. In contrast, both robot cells map the themes 'surface measurement for the assessment of the surface quality' as well as 'dimensional quality determination using 3D digitalisation'," explains Carsten Gericke, Head of automation at Steinbichler Optotechnik GmbH.

In the STEINBICHLER VISIO 7, customers receive a high performance product which maps the entire automation process over a single surface in a type of master function and at the same time ensures a high level of reliability and operating safety with standardised software and simple handling. In addition, the support and training required is considerably reduced. In this way, the STEINBICHLER VISIO 7 automation software precisely fulfils customers needs and fulfils their expectations of a suitable software concept. The software virtually maps the customer's real robot cell 1:1.

The first robot cell is equipped with the STEINBICHLER ABIS II sensor as well as two ABB robots and maps the theme of surface measurement for the assessment of the surface quality. The early and consistent detection of surface errors (for example, on sheet metal parts and body shells) with the objective and highly precise ABIS inspection system makes the quality process considerably more efficient. Labour and resource intensive waste or subsequent work is considerably reduced in this way.

The other robot cell with the STEINBICHLER COMET L3D 5M sensor and a KUKA robot prioritises the dimensional quality definition using 3D digitalisation. Combined with a robot for sensor guidance or for object handling, a fully automated component measurement is enabled. As a result, for the most varied of component sizes, 3D digitalisation for original sample testing (checking of functional dimensions), for example, may be carried out even more quickly and routine testing is considerably simplified.

All equipment configurations can be completely adjusted and scaled with regard to the automation level, software interfaces, connection to parts' feed / haulways etc. as well as the customer-specific environment. "The demand for - and at the same time the requirements on - automated units, particularly in the automobile sector, are continuously increasing. We will also present our solutions at the AUTOMATICA 2012 in view of this as with our range of products concerning automation - software and hardware - we precisely fulfil the needs of customers. Furthermore, our trade fair appearance this year has a special significance as Steinbichler Optotechnik is celebrating its 25 year company anniversary," adds Carsten Gericke.
