Stanley Trykowski of S&E Specialty Polymers Receives Distinguished Career Award from Wire & Cable Manufacturers Alliance

Lunenburg, Mass. (May 6, 2010) . . . Stanley Trykowski, a senior R&D chemist at plastic compounder S&E Specialty Polymers, received the Wire & Cable Manufacturers Alliance (WCMA) Distinguished Career Award at a ceremony held Saturday, April 24 at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford.

Trykowski was honored along with seven other wire and cable industry leaders. Following a nomination process, a selection committee of over 100 prior award recipients voted on the candidates. Winners were picked based on strong character, credibility, and significant commercial or technical contributions over a minimum 25-year industry career.

After three years in the U.S. Navy in World War II, where he served as a navigator in the Naval Air Corps, Trykowski returned home to Connecticut to resume his education. He earned a BA in Chemistry from the University of Connecticut, and went on to earn a Master's degree in Chemistry/Engineering at Trinity College. He then began his career in 1951 as a research chemist at Wm. Brand Co. (now General Cable) in Willimantic, CT, and spent the next nine years developing PVC compounds for military applications.

In 1960 Trykowski took a position as Vice President and Technical Director of Compounding at Blane Chemical in Canton, Mass. and in 1964, he joined the Great American Chemical Company in Fitchburg, Mass. as Vice President of R&D. In 1968, he and two partners formed Lynn Plastics Corporation, a specialty PVC compounder. In addition to providing compounds for the wire and cable industry, Lynn Plastics was successful in penetrating the footwear and automotive industries. Several innovative products for these industries were developed by Trykowski, including heel and sole compounds for shoes and boots, and body side moldings and windshield encapsulations for cars.

After selling Lynn Plastics, instead of retiring, Trykowski joined S&E as a Senior R&D Chemist, where he continues to lend his expertise and help the company test and develop new compounds. At 86 years young, Trykowski still works three days a week at S&E as a Senior Research Chemist. Trykowski and his wife Cecelia have been married for 55 years.
