SonicWALL Gains Leadership Position in Worldwide Gateway SSL VPN Unit Market Share

-- Company rockets to first place within six months of introducing new SSL VPN appliances with unrestricted user model

-- Enhances SSL-VPN 2000 appliance with faster, easier access and more powerful management controls

SUNNYVALE, Calif., June 19 // -- SonicWALL, Inc. (NASDAQ:SNWL) today announced that it has achieved worldwide leadership in unit share for SSL VPN gateways, according to Infonetics' Security Appliances and Software report for Q1 06.

SonicWALL entered the SSL VPN market in September, 2005 with its SSL-VPN 2000 appliance for 100 users and in January, 2006, introduced its SSL-VPN 200 appliance for up to 10 concurrent users. The new set of appliances meets the previously underserved needs of small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) for simple, secure remote and mobile access to network resources without license restrictions on the number of concurrent users. Both appliances combine high performance and ease of use with an unrestricted usage model, plus support for SonicWALL deep packet inspection technology when used in conjunction with SonicWALL firewalls.

"SonicWALL has been propelled to leadership in SSL VPN technology by its visionary business model and ability to execute in a market previously dominated by larger players with more expensive offerings. Their technology is very attractive to our customers, whose requirements for simple, secure access for their remote and mobile workers are steadily increasing," said James Carter of Integration Works, a SonicWALL partner. "The feature set contained in new firmware for SonicWALL's SSL-VPN appliances addresses these needs, bringing high performance, world-class security, ease of use and affordability together in a single appliance."

SonicWALL's SSL-VPN product family allows remote and mobile workers to establish a secure connection to the corporate network with just a PC and an Internet connection using only a Web browser. Corporate applications, remote desktops, e-mail, files and intranets can be accessed simply and securely. In addition, when used in conjunction with a SonicWALL PRO and TZ series firewall, the SSL-VPN provides enhanced dynamic threat protection by routing traffic for scanning through the firewall's deep packet inspection engine. The appliance is designed to operate with a substantial number of firewalls provided by third parties.

"Our rapid rise to unit share leadership confirms the feedback from our reseller community, that there is a large, untapped market for SSL VPN technology that is easy to use and does not carry a per-user cost penalty," said Douglas Brockett, general manager and vice president at SonicWALL.

Firmware Version 1.5 for SSL VPN 2000

SonicWALL also announced today that it has added new functionality to its SSL-VPN 2000 appliance firmware, delivering improved speed, easier remote access and more powerful controls to small- and mid-sized businesses. Important new features include one-time passwords, Citrix support, a standalone version of NetExtender and basic support for the SonicWALL Global Management System (GMS). Several of these new features were made possible through technology acquired as part of SonicWALL's purchase of enKoo in November, 2005.

Additional features of the new firmware include a one-time password capability that allows SMBs to take advantage of two-factor authentication. The new SSL-VPN 2000 firmware also provides multiple NetExtender IP ranges and routes, context-sensitive help links and a Java client for RDP5 connections. The basic support for SonicWALL GMS allows administrators to configure the appliance to send heartbeat and syslog messages to a designated GMS administrator. Administrators are also able to remotely access the management interface of multiple SSL-VPN appliances via a single administration console within GMS.
