Smith & Loveless President, WWEMA Chairman Calls for the U.S. to "Turn Off Your Tap" #NoWater

LENEXA, Kan. – Frank J. Rebori, president of Smith and Loveless Inc., and chairman of the Water and Wastewater Equipment Manufacturers Association (WWEMA) wants everyone to turn off the tap, and know what it means to go without water… for a period time. Really, the goal is to get the country to value and converse about the clean water we use and realize the infrastructure required to deliver and receive it.

“Access to clean, safe water that we enjoy in the U.S. is often taken for granted, not only by us as consumers, but also at the federal and state legislative levels, where funding for the equipment and infrastructure begins,” Rebori said. “It’s prudent for all of us to understand how much we rely upon clean water, especially on Capitol Hill.”

According to U.S. Geological Survey, daily water use in this country approaches 355 billion gallons. Yet, the infrastructure required to provide and to purify that water is near failing, according to the “D” grade given to it by the American Society of Civil Engineers. The costs to rehabilitate and replace this infrastructure could reach more than $1 trillion in future decades.

In order to generate a larger national conversation and action, as WWEMA chairman, he’s calling for all people in the U.S. Water Industry, including the legislators and their constituents served by it, to “turn off your tap” as part of WWEMA’s Water Challenge during the nation’s Water Week, April 12-18, 2015. The WWEMA campaign is designed to raise the awareness of not only how much we rely on water throughout our day, but also impress upon Congress and other leaders the critical need to better fund U.S. infrastructure needs.
