A Call for Papers for North American universities announced for the Italian Machine Tool Technology Awards

DEARBORN, Mich. — In support of the Italian Trade Agency’s (ITA) "Call for Papers" for the 2014 Italian Machine Tool Technology Awards (IMTTA), the SME Education Foundation will award scholarships to the top winners.

The IMTTA program is a competition asking upper level students attending premier North American universities to write a thesis on the relative innovation taking place in mechanical engineering-related industries and the issues they face. The goal of the program is to enrich the engineering education of students and advance knowledge on issues of importance within the industry to the next generation of engineering professionals.

The SME Education Foundation is backing this initiative with scholarships to support these future mechanical engineers; the Foundation is committed to advancing manufacturing education and the IMTTA aligns with that mission.

Winners of the Fifth Italian Machine Tool Technology Awards (IMTTA), selected as having the best papers, will be awarded a two-week trip to Italy with activities scheduled June 29 to July 12, 2014. Students will visit top Italian companies in the machine tool industry, take part in an advanced educational program at the Università Carlo Cattaneo - LIUC along with a number of cultural activities in various Italian cities. The Foundation scholarship is in addition to the trip.

Upon conclusion of the program, selected winners and faculty present at IMTS 2014, will be invited to the Italian Machine Tool Conference Dinner, taking place at Chicago’s Drake Hotel on Sept. 10, 2014.

The trip is part of the Italian Machine Tool Technology Awards, which is part of the international program Italian Technology Awards. The IMTTA is sponsored by the Italian Trade Agency, via its Chicago Office, UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE (Association of Italian Manufacturers of Machine Tools, Robots, Automation Systems and Ancillary Products) and in the United States, the SME Education Foundation (SME-EF).
