Society of Manufacturing Engineers Announces Launch of Conference Registration for RAPID 2013

DEARBORN, Mich. — The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) announced today the launch of conference registration for the RAPID Conference and Exposition to be held at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, June 10-13, 2013.

For more than 20 years, RAPID Conference and Exposition has been recognized globally among industry experts and analysts for its unrivaled display of software, systems, materials and machinery. RAPID attracts buyers, sellers and end-users of design, prototyping, tooling and direct digital technologies to a world-class additive manufacturing event featuring 3D imaging and 3D printing technologies. This year’s event features 75 conference presentations and more than 30,000 square feet of exhibits, including the Contemporary Art Gallery — a showcase of artwork that has been 3D printed or designed using 3D imaging technologies.

“RAPID has earned a reputation as the ‘go-to’ event for additive manufacturing knowledge, education and business development opportunities,” said Gary Mikola, SME business development manager. “The RAPID 2013 event schedule is designed to connect attendees and exhibitors with technologies and resources needed for businesses looking to remain competitive in a global marketplace and challenging economy.”

“Additive manufacturing is an integral part of the future of manufacturing — even the President of the United States supports its growth,” continued Mikola, referring to the President’s mention of additive manufacturing and the formation of the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute (NAMII) in this year’s State of the Union address. “RAPID 2013 is located just 45 minutes from NAMII to enable our attendees to learn more about the Institute and its goal of transitioning additive manufacturing technology to the mainstream U.S. manufacturing sector.”

In addition to the conference sessions and exposition, keynote addresses will be presented by the U.S. Department of Commerce (invited), NAMII, Disney Research, and industry veteran Terry Wohlers. Tours of five local additive manufacturing facilities will be conducted. Other activities include technical briefings, workshops, networking receptions, and the Additive Manufacturing Certificate review course and exam.
