Siemens Scalance X Family Of Switches Offers High Performance Options

ATLANTA, July 10, 2006 -- The new Scalance(TM) X family of industrial Ethernet switches from Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. delivers low ownership cost while providing four options of high-performance gigabit communication.

Utilizing signaling contact, digital inputs and simple network protocol (SNMP), the four Scalance X industrial Ethernet switches are designed specifically for high-speed backbone architectures -- including process control systems -- that must handle a large number of devices with extremely fast redundancy.

The switches support 100 Mbits per second and 1000 Mbits per second communication speeds via PROFINET, twisted copper wire or fiber optic cable.

"Scalance X switches give control engineers high-speed solutions with the unique combination of remote diagnostics and simplified configuration," says Raj Rajani, Scalance X product marketing manager. "Because different customers have varying requirements, Siemens has provided a family of Ethernet switches that is scalable and addresses individual switching needs, including IP65 environments or applications."

Siemens' Scalance X family of switches offer reduced downtime through fast device replacement; lower cost of ownership due to easy configuration with built in web-based management tools, fast commissioning, complete diagnostics via LED and PROFINET I/O, and the reliability of standard redundant point-to-point connections and power supply.

Scalance X200 Compact Managed Switch -- This managed switch offers SNMP diagnostics, operates without an enclosure, and may be mounted externally on a machine. Fast ring redundancy and a free web-based tool to diagnose cable breaks and lost communication problems reduce troubleshooting time.

Scalance X400 Multi-port Gigabit Managed Switch -- The X400 delivers the attractive office features of VLAN, spanning tree and web based management, Layer 3 switching (IP routing), SNMP diagnostics and IGMP snooping. This managed switch offers increased throughput, fast component replacement and reduced downtime. The switch integrates easily with enterprise and plant networks and is scalable up to 26 ports per switch. A redundant ring manager function enables extremely high-speed Ethernet and gigabit rings with fast redundancy (<0.3 seconds).

Scalance X100 Unmanaged Switch -- This unmanaged, versatile switch combines a compact design with electrical and optical ports with a redundant power supply connection and remote diagnostics.

Scalance X005 Unmanaged, Entry Level Switch -- Constructed with a robust metal housing, this affordable, entry-level switch is designed to accommodate small star or line structures.

Each Scalance X switch features a robust, highly reliable structural integrity. A fanless construction and the ability to operate at temperatures between -20 C and +70 C with condensation help keep the network running longer with fewer failures and miscommunications.
